Let’s say you started dating someone and you receive a WhatsApp message from them, that is a fantastic push notification and of course you are going to want to open it and see what they have to say.
Let’s say you went to a restaurant and they made you download an app to order your food. Then say 6 months later you get an automated message from the restaurant inviting you back, even though you (as the user) haven’t asked them to message you.
This type of notification is less effective and probably won’t drive people back into the app.
